Vertical Black Line on iMac Screen

I swapped my 27" iMac 2019 model 's HDD to Samsung 1TB SSD. Original aim is successful and the iMac is blazing fast now.

I connected it back and closed the iMac. When I powered up there was a black vertical line on the left of the screen. I changed the Lvds cable but still the same issue.

Any help would be much appreciated thanks.

Ouch! Sadly you managed to damage the display in the process of taking it off.

Either you used a tool which went in too deep or you pried up a bit too hard. Don’t feel bad the first one I worked on (before we even had the guides or proper tools) I messed up too!

Review the guide here to see where you messed up and getting a replacement iMac Intel 27" Retina 5K Display Display Replacement

I have a similar issue after a similiar upgrade. It’s a thin black line. Does that mean a screen replacement?

Ahh well. I’ll see how long I can ignore it for. Thanks.

This is 100% correct. Prying the screen too hard and separating the glass layer from the LCD layer will cause things like this.

The device is still 100% usable. You can lose your mouse in the black and still click on things that are there, or you can do your best to ignore it, but the only way to fix this is to replace the screen.

Thanks. Yep, it’s not worth the cost for me as I use the iMac for work and I have a pc for gaming. I’d be more concerned if it was also my gaming rig. But a black line is fine for reviewing spreadsheets and writing emails! :)
