Callers hear an echo of themselves. Stops when I put my phone on speak

Title sums it up, somebody calls me, they report they can hear themselves when they talk. I put my note9 onto loudspeaker and they report the echo has stopped. Phone is not in a case. As soon as I turn off loudspeaker they report they can hear the echo of their own voice again. Have factory reset phone, didn't fix.

I should clarify on this, with the loudspeaker ON, there is NO problem. If I put the phone to my head with loudspeaker OFF the other party gets an echo of their voice.
