What is this brown liquid leaking from my Samsung refrigerator?

I have a Samsung dorm-room-size refrigerator and, while picking it up and moving it, a brown liquid that looks like Vanilla Extract or thin Chocolate Syrup started leaking from the bottom. What is it? Should I replenish it? Will running the refrigerator damage it?

@stephenspeer kind of hard to make out but it looks like it maybe coming from your compressor. It’s actually the only thing that would have that type of fluid in there. IF it is, that would mean your compressor is leaking and needs replacing. Hard to come by and you may need a professional to do it. Of course this is only from looking at the picture. Make sure that it is not something out of your fridge that may have spilled etc.:-)

It has no smell, so it’s not likely spoiled food. The fridge has been empty for weeks.

then the most likely source is a bad compressor.....

1. Will it hurt anything to run it?

2. Is the fluid replaceable or does it require a new compressor?

by

It'll get your compressor to overheat and fail. You'll need a new compressor (

Which I need anyway because I can’t replenish the fluid Right?
