My 2001 Toyota Corolla car engine is knocking

My car engine is knocking when I start it up and it knocks when I drive do I need to change the engine

Hi,

Changing the engine may be a bit drastic as a first option.

Get the car’s OBDII port scanned for any codes first. If there are any shown, they may give an indication of what the problem is. It may be something that is easily fixed.

If you’re in the USA apparently AutoZone and Pepboys will do this for free.
