Drive Won't Mount, Need to Recover Data

Hey @danj, I read Hard Drive Issues: Code 8. What does it mean? post you answered a couple years ago, which is similar to the issue I’m having. You mentioned “Often times I see this with BootCamp installations when a Windows virus attacks the drives boot sectors.” This client previously was running Bootcamp.

I have replaced the HDD, reinstalled OSX 10.13.x, but I’m trying to recover the data from the old drive. I have it connected externally to my mac. It won’t mount in Disk Utility or diskutil mount. First Aid always fails with a code 8 or something else. I have tried verifying volumes and fsck.

At this point, is there any way I can get any data off this thing? You mentioned making a Time Machine backup and then reformatting, but I don’t even know how that’s possible without being able to mount.

Sadly, that’s the end of the drive ;-{

Maybe a data recovery app or drive recovery service can fix the drive enough to allow you to recover the data.

I used Drive Genius to check for physical errors and it spit out a list about as long as a CVS receipt. Oh well!
