Problems with the sleep/wake sensor (Hall)

I have this problem too, it’s a 13” MacBook Pro 2016 Touch Bar A1706 which is out of warranty and the service center say that the Sleep/Wake sensor on the logic board is gone and they need to replace the whole logic board (Just what apple does) //

Somebody please help me

@adgrms - As it turns out the TB models have two sensors! One on each side

You’ll need two steel paperclips and two rare earth magnets. Using the paperclips you should be able to locate the magnets within the lid along the edge bezel area. Once you’ve ID’ed them you will want a slap strip of masking tape to mark the placement (don’t leave the paperclips on as they can damage your display in the next step)

Fold down the lid so you can then transfer the locations onto the top of the uppercase. With the system on and working you should now be able to put the display into sleep mode by placing the magnets at these locations both need to be present. Did the display go out?

What is funny, not all such laptops have two sensors. One sensor not attached. Now, question is, how to bypass this sensor to make laptop lid work properly. Maybe there is some software way to switch one sensor off.


@Ivo Hanuška - Can't over-ride without making a mess on the logic board and would be more costly than fixing things properly by replacing the Hall sensor or fix the circuit properly!

As far as via software, in this case it would be the SMC's firmware which again you can't alter (security encoded) and there is no exposed API's within it either to leverage.
