Large red X in display

I have this iPod Classic 160GB Same one mention here but it will not show up on iTunes and it has the red x. I cannot get it into the disk mode either I have followed instructions by holding Menu and Center then when apple logo appears let go the menu and hold the play pause while still holding down the center. It will go to the red x. Also I try to do it by connecting it in itunes it says It needs to restore it and I click ok but after that it doesn't do anything.

Someone help me please.

I would check the hard drive with a USB-to-Zif adapter. I think that is where your problem is. Sounds to me like you need a new HDD and do not forget to change the cable as well. Good Luck
