Home button still not working after replacement

My daughter’s iPhone 8 suddenly lost functionality on the home button. I ordered a new one from ifixit and replaced it. The new one doesn’t work either. Any ideas what else it could be? Screen seems okay. A couple of times colors seemed inverted but touch works fine. No obvious signs of water damage… hesitant to spend money on a new screen assembly unless it seems extremely likely that’s the culprit. Thoughts?

Thanks! I’m going to try the screen and if that doesn’t work call it a learning experience! Thank you all!

You would need to rule out your screen. The main reason for a non-functional home button on the 7 and 8 series is a faulty home button flex cable, the one that goes from the screen to the logic board.

Hopefully it is just the screen it is a lot more cheaper than a micro-soldering repair for home button circuitry.
