Speed penalty for mounting drive in optical drive via caddy

My 2010 iMac harddrive died and I happen to have a 2.5” harddrive that I will quickly swap it out for. I need the machine running again as fast as possible. I have a caddy and am wondering whether using the optical drive/caddy method is going to be slower than if I used the dedicated SATA ports that the dead harddrive is connected too.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

If I remember correctly the SATA port the optical drive uses is only SATA II (3.0 Gb/s). The 2011 model that is true!

Frankly, I would just get this kit iMac Intel 21.5" and 27" (Late 2009-Mid 2010) SSD Upgrade Kit and just do it right! If you contact iFiit today you should be able to get express shipment and have it in your hands before the weekend. Thats when you where planing on working on your system anyways, right?
