Why Doesn't Timed Dry Heat?

I recently replaced the heating element in my dryer after finding a break in the wire. On installing a new element the dryer works (heats up) for all settings except Timed Dry. I'm not sure if it's a rare issue or if I haven't figured out the right search term yet, but I can't find any info on cases like this online.
