Ethernet doesnt have a valid IP configuration

I just bought a new motherboard because i was having some major issues with my last one. It unfortunately didn’t come with the driver disk. But i was able to get it all online and its updated. But now im having this issue where i get the error “Ethernet doesnt have a valid IP configuration” At first it woulnt’t even show it was plugged in till i changed “auto disable gigabit” to “relink, battery or ac” and disabled both “Energy efficient Ethernet” and “green Ethernet” Iv tried the following to fix the problem:

Disabled/enabled

Unchecked “turn on fast start up”

Entered in IP and DNS myself

Uninstalled and reinstalled driver

Restarted the router

disabled IPv6

unplugged pc and hit power button for 30 seconds

reset windows 10 with keep files (these worked for about ad hour after then went right back)

Command prompts

  • netsh winsock reset
  • netsh int ip reset
  • ipconfig /release
  • ipconfig /flushdns
  • ipconfig /renew

I tried to stop/restart DHCP client but i get an error (Error 5: Access is denied) and i run is as admin

There are times some of these will work but then it will go right back to no ip config. Iv tried searching the internet for other solutions but these are all the solutions i get but none have worked.

The network driver is Realtek PCIe GbE Family Controller

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Hi @darkstorm824

Had you tried with another LAN cable?

There is another way to test, by using Live Linux, see if it works to.

Just to check if this is a fresh install OS?

Hi @darkstorm824 ,

What is the make and model number of the motherboard?

What is the status of the LAN network adapter in Device Manager?

by

@salmonjapan Yes iv tried a different LAN cable and different lots on the router. It wasnt a fresh OS install. I only updated my motherboard.

@jayeff its the asus h97-plus and the status says its working correctly

Hi @darkstorm824 ,

Just wondering if you have any cards installed in the PCIEx1_1 slot (the one closest to the CPU)? This slot shares an IRQ with the LAN controller so maybe if there was one installed, there may be a conflict occurring. See Sect 1.5.2 on p.1-10 in the user manual about assigning IRQs etc if the card has to be there.

Also perhaps try installing this unofficial Win 10 driver for the adapter, (scan it first just to be safe).

It is looking like a compatibility problem and hopefully not a faulty LAN controller which would be unusual given that it’s a new motherboard. (or it it just new to you?)

Hello,

No iv never had anything plugged in that slot. the only slot that is filled is the PCIEX16_1 which has my GPU. My old motheerboard use to have a wifi driver in a PCI slot but i never use it on this one because the device stopped working on the other.

I tried using that unofficial one and also another from a different place and nether fixed the problem. There are times where ill get internet for about 30 mins, others where its connected to the router but the router is having issue but i can use wifi for the same router on my laptop. but most of the time it still has the IP issue. Could the actual router be a possible issue? I only have laptops without ethernet cables so i have no way to check if it is.

It was a refurbished one from Newegg marketplace because i was having a hard time finding a motherboard i could use with everything i already had.

Hi @darkstorm824 ,

When the LAN is not working, what is the status of the LAN network adapter in Device Manager?

by

@jayeff it says it’s working correctly

@darkstorm824 ,

Running out of ideas as it doesn't seem to be specific driver or 3rd party program related e.g. Anti Virus program or any other program that is loaded on startup as it also didn't work in safe mode where these are not loaded.

Try a sfc /scannow command, again just to eliminate possibilities

Is there anything showing in Event Viewer (Critical, Error or Warning events) that may give a clue as to what is happening? (If Win 10, right click on Win Start button left side of Taskbar, click on Event Viewer link, if Win 7 Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer)

If there is nothing showing up there then I'm leaning towards a hardware problem but can't place quite where as device manager says the LAN adapter is OK, but I suppose that it might not be from the output of the LAN adapter if you get my drift.

Are the motherboard's BIOS firmware/ chipset drivers the latest version?
