Nintendo's first 3DS handheld device released February 2011, identified by model number CTR-001.

L button doesn't work at all, R button doesn't work most of the time

Hello everyone, I have a CTR-001 3DS with broken L and R buttons, with the R button rarely working. I have another 3DS that might not be recoverable that I would be willing to use for parts. I don't have a soldering iron so I was wondering if I could switch out the buttons without one. My charge port is also bad but I saw that I would need a soldering iron to fix that. Many thanks!

Answer this question I have this problem too

Hi Giamo,

The L and R buttons are connected with flex cables to the motherboard.

You can replace them both easy without soldering.

Note: For the charging port, you need to de-solder the old one and solder the new one in, or replace the motherboard (but this will be expensive).
