Fried logic board replaced, but MBP won’t turn on and is overheating

Hello,

My 2015 MBP’s logic board fried while I was adding a CD (through an external CD drive) to iTunes. I replaced the logic board with one purchased from ifixit while following along with their guide.

Prior to the logic board replacement, there was not a single sound or fan moving if I tried to power on the MacBook. After replacing the logic board, along with replacing the thermal paste for the heat sink, the fan starts working about 15 seconds after plugging in the power cable. The problem is that the new logic board gets insanely hot and the fan is running full tilt. This is before I even press the power button. Also, pressing the power button does not power on the MBP.

1) Why is the the login board overheating while the computer is turned off?

2) Why is the MBP not turning on?

Any help is greatly appreciated

First thing is disconnect the MagSafe charger and the battery!

Let’s simplify things, first disconnect the keyboard and trackpad as well as remove the screws from the logic board as I suspect you have a short some where.

Leaving the battery disconnected!

Connect the MagSafe, is the system cool to the touch? Now disconnect the MagSafe and plug in the keyboard and then plug in the MagSafe again, still cool to the touch?

Now repeat the process with the trackpad, next making sure you are using the correct screws do two screws at a time and test again. At some point you should encounter a failure what was it?

Thank you very much @danj! I’ll spend the day troubleshooting and update when I find an answer

I disconnected the battery, keyboard, trackpad, and magsafe. After plugging in the mag safe, the HDD and the heatsink started to get really hot. I disconnected the magsafe immediately

I then waited for the macbook to cool down again. After it was cool, I simply plugged in the battery and the keyboard with no Magsafe and again it got hot

When just the battery is connected, or just the trackpad, or the trackpad and the battery, the computer does not get hot. Only when the Magsafe is connected, or keyboard and battery is connected does it get hot.

@billy_bob - So left is Write and downer is an upper? You are very confusing here!

You didn't follow the process did you? You needed to follow the steps I outlined. I never recommended plugging in the battery! There is a reason.

At this point I think its best to find someone who fixies MacBook Pro's to fix your system,
