Hi,

A 2 blink error code usually signifies a corrupted BIOS. Try a power refresh and check if that resolves the problem.

Here’s the procedure:

Turn off the laptop if on and disconnect the charger if connected.

Remove the battery from the laptop.

Remove the RTC battery from the motherboard - note the orientation of the battery before you remove it so that you reinsert it the correct way later in the procedure. Usually it is +ve on top. Also if possible measure the voltage of the battery whilst it is out. If it is <2.6V DC replace it. The battery type is marked on the battery. It is a CR2032 3V lithium battery which is available most everywhere. These batteries only last about 5-6 years. They are non-rechargeable

Press and hold the laptop’s power button for 30 seconds and then release the button. This should restore the BIOS to its’ default setting. If you had altered any settings in BIOS to suit your particular operating requirements you will have to set them again

Reinsert the RTC battery onto the motherboard Remember about the correct orientation when inserting

Reinsert the battery into the laptop

Reconnect the charger to the laptop

Try to turn on the laptop and check what happens.

If it starts there may be an error message regarding resetting the date and time, this is normal. When the OS has loaded etc, check the charge status of the battery. If it is charging, allow it to fully charge before disconnecting the charger.

Here’s the maintenance and service guide for the laptop, taken from this webpage.

Go to p.53 and p.59 to view the necessary pre-requisite steps and then the procedures to remove the battery and the RTC battery

[2012 HP Pavilion dv6] I tried many suggestions removing the battery-pack/memory/drives, BIOS-clearing keyboard & power switch combinations, removing dust/lint, etc., but the what worked for me was swapping out with a new coin-cell CMOS battery ($9 via Amazon) - located near the hard drive. The voltage on the old battery was ok (3.2V) but the amperage was way too low at ~2.6 instead of slightly over ~ 8 milliamps. HTH.
