Try replugging the micro USB charging cable for the PS4 controller and wait for a orange light on the controller to show up and it should sync. Otherwise try another cable as well because these are extremely finicky with the quality of the cable.

I tried everything, 3 different controllers, about 6 different cables. Wiped the hard drive and reformatted and reinstalled OS. Nothing worked. Bought a new PS4, plugged my controller in, same thing. PS button works in safe mode but not here. Got the genuine controller and cable that came with new PS4 and it worked. So it requires a genuine ps4 controller and a magic cable.

Is there anyway can I change it back to wireless using playstation second screen n go to settings n change it back to wireless Bluetooth originally that was my problem changing it to wire

by

This worked. Ridiculous that non Sony/Samsung usb leads can't be used to connect the control. I even had a wired control that wasn't working.

Hey i just got a ps4 with the same problem.. so the solution is getting a sony cable and an original dualshock 4

Hi,

You need to connect the controller to the PS4 first with a micro USB cable, then press the PS button. (You didnt say whether you were using a cable or not)

If that doesnt work then try a different cable: I sometimes find that not all cables work for some reason even if they charge the controller.

Hope this helps, That Tech Enthusiast

Make sure you are using a genuine PS4 controller. You can tell if your controller is an OEM version by the Playstation symbol on the PS button.

Mine is doing the same. The PS4 wont connect to anything wireless like WIFI or controllers unless they are wired to the console. I decided to factory reset the console and since it reset I cannot get past the startup screen, the controllers work on safe mode but cannot get them to work with the console as the light on the controller keeps flashing white. I have tried about 10 different cables but none of them work...Any ideas?

Same is happening to me. Did anyone solve this yet? Just bought my system second hand. Worked fine but I went in to do factory reset and when it starts up it goes right to this screen. Does the same thing with the flashing and never connects. Tried multiple cords and controllers. Help.

I had the same problem. It’s a problem with the Bluetooth module inside the ps4. You’ll have to remove it and install a new one which isn’t easy. I tried with mine and unfortunately broke the little connectors to the Bluetooth module and I don’t think there’s any way for me to get it fixed

Send it in to a ps repair shop, they'll order your part and install it on the cheap.

Anyone ever find a real fix for this? I've tried absolutely everything possible, I just haven't been able to get my hands on the official USB cables from Sony. I've tried multiple different brands of data transfer cables but no luck. I've even used a USB adapter for controllers too allow me to connect directly to the USB wirelessly and it still won't allow me to press the PS button to get past the initial start up screen.

I just bought a renewed ps4 pro and it was having this issue. I initially used the cable that came the the charging station I bought and it would not advance past the connect controller screen. After reading some of the answers here I tried the usb cable that came with the unit and the OEM ps controller and it worked fine.

Simply put.. the solution to get past the setup is to have a GENUINE controller 👍
