How to install a new GPU?

I have a Dell Inspiron Gaming laptop with a 1060G-force graphics card, I wanted to know how to replace it?

It’s soldered on these - no replacing it :(. In addition, there is no TB3/USB-C to expand it, so you’re stuck where you are.

I would max the RAM out (16/32GB) and put an SSD in. I’d also repaste the machine, as dead thermal paste can kill your performance and these are old enough it’s a concern since it’s ~4 years old at this point, based on the age of the GPU (1060). Use a good thermal paste on this since it requires a complete teardown.

What tends to happen with the junk OEM paste Dell and all of the others use is it degrades to the point it isn’t even good for it’s intended purpose after 3-4 years. It isn’t a problem if you use them for 3-4 years and replace them regularly. The issue is if you keep it long term, then it needs to be done by at least the 5th year with 3 years being ideal since the paste is typically past being usable.

With this machine, you’re coming up to the 5 year mark where the paste is no longer viable for it’s intended purpose and it needs replacement.
