Toshiba MK2035GSS HDD2A30 S ZK01 Transfer Controller Chip

Hi,

I have a damaged HDD as described in the title. I’ve installed a replacement PCB and it clicks but isn’t recognized in Windows. On investigation, I believe it’s a problem with incompatible BIOS.

This board doesn’t have a BIOS chip as described in the majority of guides online and the BIOS is stored inside the Main Controller chip. I need to swap the main controller chip from the damaged board onto the replacement board for it to work so I can retrieve my files.

The pins (if any) on the main controller are absolutely minuscule and the chip itself doesn’t look as if it’s soldered but it’s obviously attached in some way.

I cannot find anything online regarding this operation.

Does anyone here know how to go about this?

Any pointers would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

We tend not to dive into the repairing of HDD’s as its not easy to get the needed custom tools.

I would recommend you jump over to Louis Rossmann HDD drive recovery

Thanks for the quick response. I've sent a request for an estimate but they're in NYC and I'm in France, so I wouldn't mind having a go at this myself if I could find out how to remove the main controller chip.

@theprimrosepopinjay - I don't think you can without the proper gear.

Remember once you go down that path you can't recover. I would strongly recommend you find a better match of drive with the correct board.
