Samsung TV has no picture but there is sound

Hello,

I’ve followed some suggestions I’ve seen here but I still can’t get the picture to show on my Samsung un55es6500 model tv. The sound is perfect. I did the flashlight test and didn’t see any pictures so I replaced the t-con board. Issue still remains. When I disconnected the main board from the power supply I can see the led backlights on. So I replaced the main board. Still no progress and I’m looking for ideas. Before I replaced the main board I measured the voltages on the 2 connectors to the led panel. Here is what I got:

CNL802A

L1 to L4+ 77.9V

L1 to L4- 31V

CN802B

R1+ , R3+ 124.3V

R2+ 124.6V

R4+ 125V

R1 to R4- 77.9V

disconnecting the panel connections the voltages on CNL802B jump from 124V to 299V which I assumed it meant the power supply unit is working fine.

any help what to check next is appreciated.

thanks

Thanks for your response @jayeff

Sorry, that was a typo. I replaced both the t-con and the main board.

Hello. Sorry it took this long to get back to this. I added new image to the question. Looks like the left panel is not working, when I disconnect the tcon ribbon to the left panel, there is image showing on the right panel. Nothing is showing on the left panel. I cleaned the connections on the ribbons and got the same results. Does this mean the panel is damaged and can't be fixed?

Hi @diygurl ,

Given that audio is OK that means that part of the mainboard is OK i.e. signal processing and audio just no video. I’m assuming that you can change channels etc OK.

The power board seems OK for the backlights in that the power board is turned full on when the mainboard is disconnected so that they turn on and stay on and also parts of the mainboard because of the audio. It could still be the power board not turning on when directed by the mainboard but that doesn’t explain the no video

Are all the voltages that are usually printed on the power board for the connectors measure OK?

Does the TV menu screen work?

Check if there is power on fuse F310 on the tcon board (am only going on online search that says the tcon is BN95-00579A or B and that there is a fuse down near the connector back to the mainboard).

If there is no power there then it is back to the mainboard or the cable between the two.

Hi @jayeff

Yes I can change the channels. I can’t tell if the tv menu works but based on the sounds I get when switching to the smart hub and switching between tv inputs I think so.

The power on the fuse F310 is 12.69v. I tested the power on the connectors between the power board BN44-00521A and main board BN94-05675W. This is what I got

Connector CNM803 on the power board

Pin 20 power on:off- 3.3v

Pin 7 B13v - 12.74v

Pin 9 B13v - 12.74v

Pin 17 B5v - 5.2v

Pin 19 B5v - 5.2v

Connector CN201 on main board

Pin 4 - 5.3v

Pin 11 - 12.72v

Pin 13 - 12.72v

Is there a way to check if the tcon cable works?

Also, when I turned on the power, the LED backlights turned on bright for a second, then flashed off and then turned on but not as bright, and they stayed on with the power on. When the tv went on standby the y turned off. I took a video I’ll see if I can upload. I’m not sure if that’s how they are supposed to be.

Thank you.

@diygurl ,

Did you try using a torch at an angle close to the screen when you think that you're in the TV menu area to see if there is an image at all?

The voltages on the power board and also being there at the tcon board fuse suggests that the tcon should be working (and you've already replaced that) and there should be an image on the screen even if the backlights aren't working.

Just wondering.

Have you tried different signal sources and or inputs, e.g. dvd player and Component video input rather than HDMI if that is the signal input?

You replaced the mainboard but maybe you got a bad one or the only other thing that I can think off apart from using an Ohmmeter and testing the mainboard - tcon ribbon cable, wire for wire (disconnected from the boards of course) is that there is a problem with the power board but it seems to be OK in that the LED turn on with the mainboard disconnected, the voltages seem OK, the standby light works etc.

@jayeff

Good suggestion to try different source besides HDMI, I had not tried that. I will try that and other suggestions provided this weekend and will provide update.

Thanks

@diygurl

Given that you've changed the tcon and the mainboard it's looking like a bad panel

by

@jayeff thank you. Unfortunate that it is the panel that died. Thank you for your help.
