1998 Chevy k1500 pickup steering column

If someone tried to hotwire my Chevy k1500 pickup and the alarm has been activated do I have to replace the entire column and if not what do I need to do?

And if I have to replace the entire steering column does it have to be the exact year or can I interchange with another year?
