How do I remove JUST the front glass for replacement? iMac 27in 2019

Hello.

I recently made a small crack on the front glass of my iMac 27in 2019. I would like to just replace the front glass but all the guides I see show how to replace the entire screen and not just the glass. They also don’t show how to separate the glass from the screen once you have removed it.

Can anyone show me a guide on how to simply replace just the protective glass and where I can find the part?

Thank you.

Here’s the guide you’ll need to follow: iMac Intel 27" Retina 5K Display Display Replacement

You will need some tools:

  • Plastic Cards I would recommend getting two sets.
  • iMac Opening Wheel If you get the a [linked product missing or disabled: IF174-005] kit the tool comes with it.

As far as the part, this gets tricky! The glass is part of the display assembly so you can’t replace it alone. Because this is such a new system getting a new part is not that easy (and expesive!) I would get this used one:

Basically, you can’t. Shockingly awful design. The best you can do is re-purpose the display panel: Remove the glass from the panel using some dental floss or similar to cut through the gunk which bonds them together, then use alcohol to remove the gunk from the display. You can then buy a display driver board for ~100 Euros and make your own display cabinet.
