2017 MacBook Pro flashing lines on screen

The screen on my 2017 MacBook Pro suddenly has vertical and flashing lines almost like its suffering from some sort of interference. I’ve tried everything to fix it and I’m just trying to get an idea of what might be wrong. It does go away depending on what angle I have the screen at.

Ouch!

I had feared that was what you where facing. The T-CON board has failed. This is located between the heat sink heat transfer radiators (in the Fn model it only has one). If you block the side & rear vents, have a lot of dust buildup or run your system hard you can cook it.

If you are lucky your system may still ben under warranty! EU has two years, If not, did you get the AppleCare+ maintenance contract? Otherwise you’ll need to do it your self, While not overly hard you do need to be careful with the ribbon cables.

Sadly, the T-CON is part of the display assembly and you’ll need to replace the assembly:

Thank you for your help, I was really hoping that this was just a software problem. I’ll take it to an Apple repair shop on Monday and see if they can cut me a deal on a new display or a new laptop.

Apple Stores are closed! Some authorized service centers are open, so you will want to call first.
