My IT guy said I can replace my 2GB ram with 4GB ram.

I did exactly what he said when turning it off pulling carefully and putting the new sticks in. I powered back up and now my screen is black but have power. I can put the 2 old sticks of ram back and the screen comes right on when powering back up.

Hi Jackie,

O.K so the maximum RAM is 4GB in two slots so max 2GB in each slot.

The new 2GB RAM should be identical to the existing one. Read the label. If you can’t get one then you will have to buy two 2GB’s.

While you are at it upgrade the hard drive to a SSD (Solid State Drive) and upgrade Windows 7 to Windows 10. It is free if legal copy of Windows 7.
