Replacement top case - Touch ID

If a top case is liquid damaged, etc., is it possible to merely transplant the logic board and Touch ID // Power button..? Or is the power button ‘fixed’ to that unit..?

In fact, could you change the color of an A1707 and preserve Touch ID function in this method, hypothetically .. ? (That’s not my goal, but it gets sufficiently to the heart of my question) …

Thanks!!

Update (03/24/2020)

The only thing I really need to know now — is, can I transfer the Touch ID (fingerprint) // Power button to keep it with the Logic Board to which it belongs.

( I know you’ve probably answered that … but I need it to be explicit).

I have two customers who each want to keep their respective logic boards but each of whom want different colors.

They have different specs and want to keep the data on their integrated SSD … they just want the MLB and Touch ID swapped. Is that possible..?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

The TouchID button is one of the parts you'll need to move over. Once you get the uppercase you'll see very clearly what needs to move over. It took me less than a half hour to move the parts over and have a working system.

You're making this much harder in your head than it is!

The only risk is if you break something in the process.

Yes you can replace the full uppercase! Thats how Apple does it. You will need to stick with your models series. Here’s the needed part:

You’ll then need to transfer the parts over and I would add a fresh battery MacBook Pro 15" Retina (Late 2016-2017) Battery the risk of damaging the battery is quite high and it could fail on you if you transfer it.

If you have a UK or other keyboard layout you'll need a different case.
