Proximity sensor quit working after battery change.

Motorola Z Force. Replaced battery, now proximity sensor doesn’t work. I have started in safe mode to test for software issues, and it doesn’t work that way either. Also ran the device hardware testing and proximity sensor failed. What could have happened to break my proximity sensor?

Hi @ferret13sj

This is usually an issue with the adhesive used to secure your screen back in place. Sometimes the adhesive tape used can block the sensor if it is not designed for this model. The sensor is also EXTREMELY sensitive to the thickness of your adhesive tape. If it is too thick, the sensor will false trip.

I recommend using a kit such as this one to resolve your issue.

I didn't use new adhesive. And the problem isn't false tripping, it's that the screen doesn't go dark when I hold phone to my ear. Today I noticed in daylight that there are some tiny white specks that appear to be under the screen, where the circle for the sensor is. Going to take it apart again tonight and see if I can clean those specks off.

In that case focus on the thickness. You can test this fix by applying slight pressure to the top of the phone screen while covering the sensor to see if this will allow it to see through.
