iPad restore stuck on verifying iPad restore

I am trying to factory reset an ipad air for a customer.

In iTunes it is stuck on Verifying iPad Restore. it has been like this even overnight at one point. i have tried regular recovery mode restore, update and restore, dfu restore and a few so-called “iDevice software repair programs” like PhoneRescue. It is the same problem with itunes(macOS Sierra with latest itunes installed) and in Finder (macOS Catalina)

the iPad is stuck in recovery mode.

the owner wants the battery replaced because it is terrible, should i try restoring with a new battery installed? i don’t want to install a new battery if i can’t restore it anyways.

any thoughts?

The iPad is stuck on this screen during attempted restore.

When i unplug the ipad, itunes says error 9 occurred.

I have this exact issue now...did you find a solution for this? much appreciated

On a Mac with macOS Catalina, open Finder. On a Mac with macOS Mojave or earlier, or on a PC, open iTunes. If iTunes is already open, close it, then open it again.

Try restore using 3uTools, I once had an iPad with same error code 9 and that software fixed the problem.

Can't seem to download 3utools on my macbook? is it only supported on windows? I only have a chromebook other than my macbook, would that one be able to run 3utools?

@tubbe5046 Yeah it only runs on Windows, you can either borrow somebody's laptop or create a Windows VM on your MacBook, just a reminder the said 3uTools is not a guaranteed fix; the issue may be hardware related which is more complex to troubleshoot, we'll delve into that afterwards.

OK I am no expert but I recently saw this on Apple support forums. Here is the link. I hope this helps.

The state of this iPad is really bad. This must be a hardware failure. Contact the Apple store for technical support.
