very weak wifi signal after getting phone wet

hi

i got my iphone wet and after it dryed out in a bag of rice for 24 hrs everything is working fine except my wifi signal strength is extremely weak and will drop out often. i replaced the wifi antenna with the guide on this site but still have the same problem, im thinking it coukd be a problem with the chip or the soldered connections to it or would a full clean with isopropyl alcohol help. Any advice would be apprectated

thanks

Does anybody know where I can get isopropyl alcohol in the uk? I've tried Maplins but they only sell it in aerosol form

Ian I got mine from boots the chemist. they did it as a special order for me when I explained what i wanted it for...plenty of crazy looks but it's come in handy! you can use it again and again (keep mine in a klip lock container) if you pour it through a cotton cloth to get rid of debris. cost £5.23..

You can submerge the board for quite sometime..5-15 minutes is long enough but I've left it longer(hours...so don't panic). What you do need is something to try and clean any stubborn dirt/debris etc from in,around, under etc all the tiny components. I use an eye-makeup brush which is quite small, very soft. You can use an old soft toothbrush/paintbrush anything that isn't going to shred your components. You need to watch what you're doing, don't just wave the brush like a magician, try to direct it to the hard to get bits. water debris is greenish or white..look at the guide link for an idea(oldturkey's blue text up above) you can clean connectors/flex ends on the wifi antenna. The only reason not to submerge the LCD is it leaves watermarking behind your screen which is almost impossible to remove. You might find that having cleaned it there is still dirt etc, repeat again and sometimes again. let it dry a few hours before you reassemble it.

thanks pollytinto

i have repaced the wifi antenna so that shouldnt be dirty and i have just cleaned connector 6 with a fine make-up brush (as i couldnt bring myself to dunk it in the alcohol yet!) which did seem to have a little bit of white residue on it but still no wifi so i guess i will have to bring myself to dunk the board!
