Why does my DS I XL turn off if I apply pressure to the left side?

So, I’ve had this DS for a while now, like a few years, and I recently found it again. But I have ran into a problem where if I apply any pressure to the left side of the DS (including pressing the D-Pad) it will turn itself off. This is extremely annoying when playing through games and not having to save and it turns itself off.. anyone know of a fix?

Louis,

This is most likely a bad solder or wiggly power connection on the battery. The video below gives you a decent “how to” for replacing the battery, but should also allow you to check connections. Though I recommend using correct tools, instead of improvising. iFixit has a nice tool package for sale that works for repairs like this.

I don’t have the right tools yet but I’m pretty sure all connections are fine. I’ll update when I can get the back open

Dude this fixed my DSi XL!!!!! Turns out something was wrong with that battery and the connection! I just swapped out the battery and it worked for me 😊. My DSi XL works fine now when tapped in the corner.
