Dead Video Card - Wish to Recover the Hard Drive

A friend’s Macbook Pro looks like it has a dead video card. Powers on with sound, but no video to display or output to HDMI.

What would be the easiest way to recover some data on there? The friend really only wants her itunes playlist and music.

Pull the SSD out? Repair the Video Card? A way to SSH to the box?

Any suggestions are appreciated.

If you have a second Mac (replacement system) then all you need to do is restart this system in target disk mode. Even if you can’t see any image on the display the system should be accessible via a Thunderbolt cable between the two systems as if it were an external drive!

Use target disk mode to move files to another computer
