Why are some buttons not working?

Buttons including the right and top side of the selection cross do not function properly. Instead, they open up the recent picture I just took. It seems as if it’s an issue on the inside of the camera, bacause just above the selection buttons (I don’t know the actual term for it) is the button that takes you to your pictures. Now I believe I can’t fix it and I’m freaking out because it was a christmas gift and I haven’t even actually used my camera once……
