Keyboard broken for second time

My Macbook’s keyboard broke last year. First the space bar started working only about half of the time. Then other keys started giving me the same problem, like ERTYUI. Cleaning the keys seemed to help a little but only for a while and not 100%.

I replaced the entire keyboard which turned out to be very dirty. With the new keyboard my Mac was working fine again.

Now, after about 5 months in which I’ve used the Mac very little, the keyboard has started giving me trouble again. The space bar is showing the same problems as before. Sometimes it will just not work.

Could there be any other problem underlying these keyboard issues?

Yes, of course, there’s an IC controlling the keyboard on the logic board. Keyboards hardly go bad on their own, but two in 5 months would make me think problem is somewhere else too. You didn’t pick any specific model of Macbook, but unless it’s the latest 2012 release a board replacement or even repair might not be an economically viable choice.

Try reseating the KB cable just to be on the safe side.

It’s a mid 2012 model. I did the keyboard replacement by myself before so I am able to do minor repairs, but I couldn’t repair any faulty connectors or cables. (Although I could replace them).

I’m thinking it might be a good idea to open the body up and check the connections once more to see if everything’s okay.
