I’m new here so apologies for choosing the wrong tv mode but it gave me no other options. My tv is the M65d0 Vizio. It has a black vertical bar on about a 1/4 of the display. I’ve power cycled the tv, factory reset it, it shows in the menu as well as during regular viewing of any app or cable tv show. Is this a backlight issue or maybe a board issue??

Hi Damond. Let me first start out by saying that I am not a TV tech. However, I am an engineer who has designed industrial control products using TFT LCDs for well over 10 years. In my experience, when a section of the backlight fails, that area of the display will be much dimmer but not totally black. Light from the functioning part of the B/L will bleed over to that area of the display. The photo that you have posted has a well defined edge to the black area of the image. This leads me to believe that the driver ICs for that portion of the display have failed. The problem MAY be with the controller board but I suspect that the ICs are part of the actual LCD glass and therefore would not be repairable. I hope my experience with industrial displays translates correctly to TV displays.
