What type of RAM for my MacBook? And which model is it?

Hello. I want to upgrade my macbook’s RAM, but firstly I’m not sure what model is it exactly and secondly I don’t know what type of RAM should I use. The problem about first thing is when I check “this mac” page, there is “late 2008 macbook 5.1” model, but its processor is 2.66 GHz, which can’t be in 2008 model according to apple.com models list. Everymac.com shows that it was introduced on March 3, 2009 and it shows too that factory RAM memory was 4GB, but I have only 2GB (I bought this macbook a few days ago). About RAM - in Apple user guide of this macbook I can read that only 1066 Mhz RAM is compatible, but “this mac -> memory” page shows that supported memory is 1333 MHz.

Is this your system? 15" MacBook Pro 2.66 Ghz Core 2 Duo

I think you got the MacBook5,1 mixed up with the MacBookPro5,1 which is a different system series.

I think this one is mine. But it says 1066 MHz too and my macbook says it should be 1333.

Lets do this, take a snapshot of the 'About This Mac' window and paste it here for us to see Adding images to an existing question

OK, I see where the confusion originated.

The RAM your system currently has installed is DDR3-1333 MHz PC3-10600. While your system was designed to support DDR3-1066 MHz PC3-8500.

Both will work in your system! But, you do need to match the speed in both sockets. Here’s a deeper view: DDR3 SDRAM

Here’s the standard RAM your system needs: Crucial 8GB Kit (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1066

FYI: Your system is what I had thought!
