Upgrade MacBook by installing newer version motherboard?

Hi!

I have a Macbook with a broken motherboard and I want to buy a new one. Now is was thinking the Macbook air's have very similar layouts year to year, can't I 'upgrade' my MacBook by installing a newer ie 2012 or 2013 motherboard in my current 2011 MacBook? Does somebody know if this is possible? Thanks!

Unfortunately no, you can’t upgrade to following years boards as the model changes entirely from A1369 to A1466 and it comes with different and incompatible display cables. You can downgrade to the late 2010 board with the core2duo processor which is still a decent and reliable board, especially the 2.13GHz. I would forget about the 2011 boards altogether as they suffer from poor design issues.
