Replacement for USB connection

Called Samsung and they do not have the replacement for a USB connection on a Samsung Tab A 32GB SM-T380NZKEXAR. Does anyone know where this can be purchased/found? This site shows me how to fix it but I can’t find it.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Hi @ lindaanelson30,

You can replace the USB charge port.

Here’s a link to the SM-T380 USB connector part (supplier shown is example only to show what it looks like and cost of part). There are other suppliers of the connector that may suit you better. Just search for Galaxy SM-T380 USB connector part to get results.

You will also need to have the requisite SMD soldering skills and tools to do the repair. Check on YouTube how to do SMD soldering.

If you do decide to repair it this way unless you have previous SMD soldering experience, practice first on an old damaged pcb board before you try it on your tablet as it is not an easy task for a novice repairer ;-)

If this seems too daunting, you could just replace the charge port board (supplier shown is example only to show what it looks like and cost of part). There are other suppliers of the board that may suit you better. Just search for Galaxy SM-T380 charge port board to get results.

Here are some links that may be of some help with the repair, either to replace the USB connector or the board.

Good luck with the repair.

Could you please verify the exact model number of the tablet?

i was trying to find out if it was possible to update the firmware in the tablet to bring it more up to date but it is not listed here or anywhere else that I checked.

Thank you for your help. I'm NOT a techie but my husband can do soldering. I know this is probably a "dumb" question but does it make a difference if the port is an SM-T380 for different models or will any SM-T380 port work? It had been indicated elsewhere that because it was a wi-fi I would need to replace the entire motherboard.

Hi,

Ah yes, but can your husband do SMD soldering?

You can mess things up if it is not done right.

Not trying to put you off but as I said earlier, practice first to get the hang of it if you've never done it before.

You may be able to get a reputable professional mobile phone repair service to do it for you at reduced cost if you just take the new USB port and just the docking board and get them to do the part changeover, as they have the tools and the experience i.e. you dis-assemble and re-assemble the tablet saving on time and labour cost by the repairer. Downside of this is the repairer can't guarantee it works as it cannot be tested until the tablet is re-assembled. Just a thought.

No questions are ever "dumb". Not asking questions when you're not sure is "dumb" ;-)

As far as I know all SM-T380 USB ports are the same. It is the numbers after the initial model series number that may make a difference as to what extra hardware and features that may be included. e.g. LTE, more memory, different software features etc. That's why I asked you to verify the full model number as I couldn't find anything on what you said. Just in case there is a software update available for your particular model, bringing it more up to date.

The easy way out as I said is to replace the docking board only (the board with the USB charge port on it).

This is a separate board from the motherboard so not quite sure why you'd have to change the entire motherboard if the USB port is on a separate board. Unless it was thought that perhaps there was a charging problem further into the circuit. Then that may make more sense.

If you're unsure if you are getting the correct replacement, find the board number on the docking board in your tablet and then search online using the board number only. That way you're guaranteed to get the correct one.

Uh, Try looking on ebay or just get a newer tablet that ones considered obsolete by the older version of android it’s running. Contact insurance and go from there hope this helps you.

Thank you, I did buy a new one but since this is not 2 years old thought I "might" be able to salvage it.
