Black blotch in readout

I have a Craftsman digital multimeter that is in good shape and works great. The readout has a black blotch in it and makes it almost impossible to read. I don’t know what caused it and I have never dropped it. I could fix it if I could find a new readout component. Any suggestions?

Well you can try this method. sometimes i think it is due to humidity, etc that cause this.... i had seen this happening on calculators, etc
