What external DVD drive is good for losses CD ripping?

With my current drive (Memorex MRX-650LE V7) I have had issues with 2 recent rips where there is a timing issue at 00:10:00 or 00:10:00-00:12:00. I have had this issue with Traces and the 1991 Foreigner 4 release (original tape remaster) with Foreigner 4 having the issue at 00:10:00-00:12:00 and Traces at 00:10:00. Some of my other rips may have this issue, but I am only covering the recent ones as I have noticed this persist since Traces.  I use this drive in conjunction with Exact Audio Copy.

The track on Foreigner 4 that was affected (Night Life) doesn’t have an issue I can detect as this would be very visible since I rip in WAV 16 44,100Hz quality so I believe the drive is wearing out or it’s fine, but no longer reliable for consistent CD ripping.

Is there any way I can bring this drive back into calibration or is it sound like my days of using it for CD ripping are over but as a general use drive, I’m okay? I have tried detecting the features of the drive (which also reports if it is accurate after, which it is) in some hope this fixes the problem.

Correcting the drive under drive options->Drive->Autodetect read command now fixed the problem. No errors on the second run for Foreigner 4.

It seems like the solution short of buying new externals every ~5 years as it happens (Black Friday 2015 purchase) is to run a autodetect command to bring the drive back into calibration. I don’t anticipate this working more then a few times when data accuracy is critical once it happens, but once it can no longer be recovered it’s time to start over with a new drive.
