Can I put my hard drive from an early 2011 13"core i7 to mid 2012model

Can I replace the harddrive on a mid 2012 core i7, 13” macbook pro with one from an early 2011, core i7, 13" macBook pro. I'm trying to save time by not having to transfer all my data to the other harddrive.

Sure you can, reset the PRAM after replacement and you should be done. In my experience however, it would be a good idea to run the final combo update update of the Os you have installed not to miss firmware updates and correct possible small glitches.

Thanks! Will give you an update once my MacBook Pro, mid-2012 laptop arrives next week, to make the switch. What I'm switching is my SSD 1TB harddrive from my early 2011 MacBook Pro to the mid-2012 .

@pmet - I would take the time to replace the HD SATA cable! MacBook Pro 13" Unibody (Mid 2012) Hard Drive Cable place a strip of electricians tape on the uppercase where it crosses over Your Hard Drive Cable Is A Ticking Time Bomb. And use care in forming the folds you don't want to crease the cable! Use a BIC pen ink straw to help you form the arc so you have a smooth radius.
