As with any electronic device containing circuit boards and IC chips, water and moisture are the enemy. It is not only the water that can short out the intricate circuits, but the minerals in the water. When dry, the minerals are left.

I suggest:

  1. Remove the battery, and do not plug in the charger.

# Disassembly the unit and give it a complete inspection. Look for traces of either water still there and minerals left behind. Calcium may leave behind white traces.

# Check for components that are evidently blown. Like varistors, capacitors, etc.

# Depending on what you find, you may need to give the circuit board a bath to clean off residue. Use 99% pure alcohol for this.

  1. When its clean and dry, reassemble it and see if it will work.
