Problems after screen replacemet

2 problems that i am aware of…

  1. Home button no longer functions
  2. Not sure what this is called, but the feature where the phone is locked, but you are able to reply to text messages …does not work any longer

I haven't tried to diagnose the problem yet. There is considerable discussion about the home button in here and around the web. It's kind of a drag, maybe i should have researched more before doing the job?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

About the home button,it’s tied to the logic board. It has circuitry in the flex cable that “talks” with the logic board. There is a very good chance you ripped the home button. It is not replaceable. However,it is reparable by very qualified micro solderers. It’s not easy.

Before you assume it’s broken, make sure you properly connected it to the new display. The screen could be defective too..since the flex cable you plug it into runs under the lcd(all new screens come with that flex cable and it runs up to the flex cable that plugs into the logic board). A new screen can have a damaged flex cable for the home button. It could be damaged where it runs under the lcd. If you didn’t connect the home button itself to the flex well enough,or didn’t connect the other side of the screen flex(the other end of the home button flex) to the logic board well enough,it can cause this. Reconnecting doesn’t fix it,and you’re sure you didn’t tear the home button flex, then you can try another screen with it to be sure.

I kept the old screen, so I can verify against it as well.

I was super careful removing the home button - having read how fragile it can be. But, it is worth checking all the connections as you have pointed out.
