iPad 10.5 Pro screen black

Screen back light works, device will reboot and sound comes out but there is no image displayed.

Is it possible that a connector came loose? Or more likely hardware failure?

What happened to the iPad prior to this issue; was it dropped, damaged, repaired or came into contact with water?

If the iPad was dropped or damaged, then you probably have an LCD issue. If the iPad came into contact with water, then it’s probably a logic board issue. Of course, it could be either one of those regardless of the triggering issue. At some point, this device will have to be opened and the LCD tested to help figure out the issue.

No damage to the device. Hasn’t been dropped or water damaged. I recovered the device back to 12.3.1 after trying the ios 13 beta for a few days. After the recovery I successfully restored from my icloud backup and I left it charging while it finished downloading the apps. I came back to a blank/black screen.

Further question before I open it up. If the GPU is dead, would the device still make sound like it does?

The "GPU" rarely fails, it is embedded, along with the CPU/DSRAM into what is called a SoC (System on Chip). The issue, if it is logic board related, usually has to do with the voltage supply IC.

@refectio Thanks for the information. I was considering testing the GPU by plugging in a lightning to hdmi adapter. If that does work. I'll open it up to check the connectors.
