Wifi only working when next to router

Hi,

Macbook pro 15 mid 2012. My wifi is only working when next to router. I have previously replaced the airport/bluetooth board not knowing that the board might not be a problem. I have since bought usb wifi card and I am fine now. I would still like to fix original wifi/bluetooth card if possible.

Could it be the antenna?

I didn’t drop it, it’s in A+ condition.

It’s interesting… I could sit next to wireless router for hours and not drop a signal. As soon as I move I loose it.

I could probably get a range extender too. The dongle shuts off when laptop goes to sleep and it takes a little bit for it to go online. I just got ssd and 16gb of memory so it’s super fast, dongle slows it down. :)

Thanks for your answer!

Unless you bumped your Mac, I seriously doubt it can be an antenna issue..that’s almost a passive part. I’d be more inclined to think it might be a logic board issue, a filter going bad or something along that direction. I’d never recommend a screen assembly replacement just “to see if things get better”. If the dongle you’re using doesn’t bother you too much I’d stick with that.

Thank you for this - my head was melted with a Macbook Pro Late 2011. I swapped out the Airport/Bluetooth board and the cable, but the problem persisted.

I have now ordered a Wi-Fi dongle and that should do the trick.
