Please can someone help me, I bought a fairly used iPhone 4G but there is no service as the network will not be recognized but the interesting thing is that in most of the times the 'Network Bars' are full and only occasionally do I see 'no service'.

I have tried everything possible including Jailbreaking and total disassembly many times but the problem persists.

But I happen to come along one blog where someone suggested issues related to network especially in 2nd hand phones, could be the phone is blocked if it happened to be stolen. CAN SOMEONE HELP ME WITH ANY SITE I CAN USE TO CHECK WITH MY "IMEI NUMBER" IF MY iPHONE IS A STOLEN ONE AND THE IMEI IS BLOCKED.

Can you get reception? Can you make phone calls and text messages?

No. that's the very problem I can't make calls and I can't send messages. The network logo doesn't appear, it's only some bars. In the network setting, what I see there is 'unknown'. However, I have no problem with 'wifi'. Thank you
