How to fix a charging port on Asus r516ux-RH71

Hello internet. My wife’s charging port on her laptop doesn’t work properly as the internal pin is loose. I have asked several repair shops about it and no one can seem to find the part for this laptop. Some say it doesn’t even exist. I can find it on Amazon though with what I know to be the model number. Does anyone have a quick fix for the laptop its self or any number that may work for it? Ive spent the last week digging around the internet hopping to find something but come up dry.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Hi @shade_drezin

The DC-In jack (charging port) is mounted directly onto the motherboard. Usually it has to be replaced as it cannot be repaired.

Here’s a link to a video that shows how to disassemble an Asus R516-UX laptop.

Hopefully it is of some help to you, to gain access to the motherboard so that you can determine if the DC-In jack is an SMD (surface mounted device) type component or a through hole type component.

If is is an SMD component you’ll need SMD soldering skills to effect the replacement of the jack.

If replacing the jack seems too daunting contact a reputable, professional laptop repair service and ask for a quote to do the replacement. You may be able to reduce the cost of this if you supply the replacement part and provide the motherboard only to the repairer, i.e. you dis-assemble and re-assemble the laptop thereby reducing the time spent by the repairer on the repair. Just a thought.
