I started having trouble with it shutting down randomly with on battery and on charger. I retrospect I have noticed that the past several months, the battery would drain quickly. Although I was not doing anything exotic, I thought it was me. The battery shows

The battery being only 13 months old, I am concerned it is not the problem and reluctant to spend $70 bucks to find out (I bought the tools the last time) :-)

Answer this question I have this problem too

Hello

If you can reset the SMC + PRAM ok and have never spilled liquid on your machine.

I’d say your problem is the thermal paste on your cpu / gpu is dry, has dried out, as its an old machine.

And needs replacing quick i.e a good service is needed. Clean out the rear fan grills also of fluff and hairs etc.

Your machine is shutting down because it is hot. Shutting down is a safety feature.
