Why does my Panasonic TC-P42X1 tv not turn on.

My tv will only turn on if I hold the power button for 3 seconds and then push it again. It doesn’t always work. Sometimes I repeat the process for up to 10 minutes before it will turn on. Then it works fine until it shuts off again.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Here we go again. Power goes out TV spazzes out. Panasonic has apparently made a good chunk of change on faulty tv’s with no concern. Everytime we get rain this thing breaks out in cold sweats. Every other tv i have in my home feels like it would work with the power OFF. But not Panasonic! NO NO NO! It needs a foot massage and a reminder of how pretty it is for 7 days straight before it graces us with its prescence again. I have held this and unplugged that certainly over 100 times since this 1st happened. When it works it is wonderful. When it doesnt I feel like i paid my hard earned money for a paperweight. Standing there holding the buttons for minutes isnt always the most comfortable thing either. Yada Yada Yada. 7 more days to go.

After 5 plus years of dealing with the same issue of the tv not turning back on because of a power outage I finally found the solution!!!!! It took longer than I wanted but i got it in 3 easy steps.

1st: Go to the nearest Best Buy.

2nd: Purchase a television that is NOT A POS panasonic.

Lastly and most important….Throw that 10 pounds of crap in the trash.

Noone outside of electricians have the time or the patience to unscrew the back of a tv and go peaking around at the motherboard. That power hold volume/menu bs is more miss than hit. Good luck getting any help from Panasonic’s sorry a$$ techinical support as they email crap that has zero chance of fixing anything. Panasonic is to tv’s what Pinto’s are to the Ford motor company. My life is so much better now that the hunk of junk is out of my home and its only been 30 minutes since I threw it in the dumpster. I wouldnt relieve myself on the CEO if he/she was on fire.

Linda Dirks  appears to be a power board issue. You do want to go ahead and remove the back from your TV. (unplugged of course) and take a look at the boards. Check for any burned or otherwise damaged looking component.

Post some good pictures of your boards with your question so that we can see what you see. Adding images to an existing question

You will need a multimeter so that you can eventually get to the point of checking a few things.
