There is a sensor, usually a lever, that tells the printer it is out of paper. I believe your sensor is either broken or dislocated. You can find it by close inspection of your paper tray. If it turns out not to be the case, replace your pickup rollers. The pick up rollers will probably have a smooth or flat spot that causes it to spin but pickup and feed the paper late. Thus causing your printer timer to miss the pickup and feed signal.

Over time the feed wheels and sensors get coated with paper dust so they fail to work as designed.

Grab some paper towels, long stick cotton swabs, 85% or better isopropyl alcohol and a can of can’ed air.

Clean the tray and the paper feed rollers with the moistened cut-up paper towel pieces and cotton swabs. Use the can’ed air to blow the paper chamber and sensors out.

Worked great! I was ready to toss my expensive printer. Had tried everything including deleting it & reinstalling, driver and all. Thanks for some super advice!

Never clean rubber parts in your printer with alcohol. It removes the natural oils and dries out the rubber. Use only soap and warm water.
