Repair information and guides for the iPhone 6 that was released on September 19, 2014. Model Numbers: A1549, A1586, and A1589

Two problems with iPhone 6; can’t hear and battery dies fast.

Question 1.

To start off, I bought an iPhone 6 (silver/ 128gb) about two years ago from someone, used of course.

It was fine for a while, but then I noticed that the volume was low. I checked online for solutions and made sure it was at max volume in general/ settings. Even at full volume, you can barely hear it. Note that this only happens with phone calls. I tried to trade it in, explaining that everything was fine except for that issue, and I was given the explanation “It’s an internal software issue, it cannot be sold”, but I don’t believe that.

So my question is, is it possible I may just need to replace the hardware and install a new ear piece/ speaker?

Question 2.

The same phone also has an issue with battery life. Note that I recently replaced the battery with one that has a little more juice. I believe the original battery life is 1810 MaH and the new battery currently inside it is 2050 MaH.

I did a test with with this iPhone and another iPhone 6 (pink/ 64gb). I charged them both before work (7 hour shift), came home same evening and the Silver iPhone (128 gb) died while the pink iPhone (64 gb) only went down by about 10%. Both on standby and both were recently given the same brand new 2050 MaH battery.

Is there possibly something else that’s wrong with the Silver iPhone, maybe perhaps with hardware? Something I could replace?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

First off, the earpice could just be dirty, usually the mesh gets full of dirt and makes its way inside the mesh and compacts, this is easy to resolve by taking the earpice out and cleaning this area. Worst case replace the earpice also which is cheap.

secondy the battery, even though you bought a high capacity battery its probably just fancy marketing label but that's not your problem, you could try a new battery if the replacement is worse than your original as batterys can be defective, or you could have a hardware issue which maybe hard to diagnose, a reputable repair shop should help you with this, it may have water damage inside.

  • Replace the earpiece & clean the metal mesh for the speaker
  • Try another battery and make sure its actually charging properly with a USB ampmeter

The 6 isn't available in pink only the 6s (and above) if so are u comparing a 6 to a 6s and did they both have the same software version? Running apps, etc…

My apologies, I meant to say rose gold. But I also double checked, and again, excuse me for the misinformation. It is actually just regular gold and it is indeed a regular iPhone 6.

When you say software, are you referring to the iOS? Both phones are up to date and have few apps running since I don’t use them at all. I’m really just wanting to learn to repair the damage to them and possibly resell them.

@alecciobelfont Since you have already a known good and possibly a bad battery the easiest thing in my opinion is to just swap the two. If you still have the battery drain that points to a short.
