Fuel Float Repair Info

While cleaning the fuel tank float on 1983 300D the aluminum wire (“V” shaped) which guides the float and helps send level info to gauge broke. I replaced it with same size copper wire. Would that effect the fuel gauge reading? What difference it makes if it is aluminum or copper while the other (“I “ shaped second wire in the unit) wire was copper as well.

It will definitely affect the reading! But as far as I know, it should be okay if you never plan on driving with an almost completely empty fuel tank.

I don’t remember how much but the change will be in resistance to the wire so it will show either more or less than actually in the fuel tank.
