How could I change a broken hinge?

I’ve had this laptop for a little over a year and both of the hinges for the screen have completely broken, I know many people who own the same model have had the same issue but I can’t seem to find a solution. :(

Another problem I have along with the hinges is that the palm rest on the laptop has also become loose and is coming apart along with the charging port that isn’t able to charge anymore.

Does anyone have any idea how it could be fixed? Or if it is even fixable?

Hi @snufflekin ,

Is it that the hinges are broken or that the posts the the hinges screw into in the palmrest assembly have broken?

If it is the posts, then you need to replace the palmrest assembly.

Here’s a link to the service manual for your laptop, taken from this webpage.

Scroll to p.43 to view the necessary pre-requisite steps and then the procedure to remove/replace the palmrest assembly.

Replacements are available online, just search for Dell Inspiron 5577 palmrest assembly or Vf544 0VF544 (part number - see bottom of assembly to confirm) to find suppliers

Thank you so much! I'll try this :)

My bad though, I should've been a little clearer but both the hinges are broken but the screws which were also holding the posts in place have fallen out so there's nothing really holding it in place , if that makes sense?

But I think this will help a lot, thank you! :D
