LCD screen discolored with red pixels

Several days ago when I was using my Macbook pro, the LCD screen suddenly discolored with red pixels shrinking on some part of the screen. I have connected it to another monitor, and the display is fine, and the image captured by print screen is also fine. So I suggest it might be the problem of the display data cable. But the discoloration only happens for certain areas and certain colors. Normally for black regions, the majority of the region will be changed to discolored red pixels, but it won't happen for white or gray ones. Please kindly help to identify the problem, thanks a lot.The attached images are all taken using my iPhone when viewing ifixit web pages.

Hi All,

I have the same problem on a Macbook Pro 17" late 2006 (A1212). For your info I changed the inside LCD removing frame (99$ for a used one at Powerbookmedic.com). Maybe I should have buy it at iFixt instead! :)

Anyway nothing has changed. Same problem. So now I am supposing it is the data cable connector of the LCD. But not sure at all. Maybe it is the motherboard?!

¿Anyway did any of you fix finally the problem? If Yes how?

Thanks for your help.

it appears like you have a high amount of stuck pixels.

the best solution is the replace the LCD and the LVDS cable. you can tey the LVDS cable alone first to see if it makes a difference.

Alternately, you can try a repair such as this one http://flexcode.org/lcd.html . please use caution as it may make your problem worse. I've used that site to repair a few stuck pixels in the past but in other cases it has made things worse. start off by moving the little flashing secsion beside the "to fix it" section to an area that you ahve problems with. if it makes it better, run it full screen to clear the rest. if it makes that small section worse, then you will have to look at replacing it.

Hi pierrej, thanks for the reply. But I don't think those are stuck pixels as the location varies according to color. The whole screen can even be perfectly fine when certain color is not there.

I have seen this exact thing before, it was when a bottle of soda got splashed on my buddies display. It created that weird pattern and only effected one color. The fix is simple, just replace the screen, but also track down however spilled something on your comp.
